Do you believe in love at first sight? I do. Aside from it happening to me, I’ve seen it happen to buyers. More than once even. I remember showing houses to the wife of a couple moving here from Colorado. She had given me the “must have’s” for their new home. The area, price range, number of bedrooms & baths etc. We had been looking for a couple of days when we arrived at this particular home. I opened the lock box, removed the key, slipped it into the lock, fumbled with the door in my usual way, and stepped inside. Mrs. Buyer stepped in behind me, and we both stood in the foyer looking around. It was at this point that she turned to me and said, “We’ll buy this one.” I turned to look at her and there was an ever so slight smile on her face, and an honest to goodness twinkle in her eye. Now I’ve been doing this for a long time, and no one has ever committed to a purchase before walking through the home. So being the professional that I am, I said “Perhaps we should take a look at the rest of the house.” To which she responded “Of course, but this is the one we’re going to buy.” To which I thought, “I’ve got to remember how I did this, so I can do it again next time.”
I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve had these same experiences. I look at houses every day on the MLS. It’s not the same as going in them. Being in the house allows you to feel the home, smell it, get the vibe if you will. It’s certainly different than just looking at pictures. In the case of my Colorado couple, there was something about that house that “spoke” to her. Definitely love at first sight. I love it when that happens.
